Sun goes through a natural solar cycle approximately every 11 years. Cycle is marked by increase and decrease of sunspots. Solar maximum occurs in years when sunspots are most numerous, while solar minimum refers to years when number of sunspots is lowest. During solar maximum, activity on Sun and the effects of space weather on our terrestrial environment are high.
